Homeschooling

During the coronavirus crisis many highschool students are taught at home. This is new to everyone here in the Netherlands, but did you know that home schooling is a big thing in the USA? Let’s take a look at that.

 

Before watching

In groups of four, discuss the following questions.

1. What do you think of being taught at home? (Either by parents or by teachers via the internet) Explain.
2. What are the advantages of being taught at home? What can we learn from this when we get back to school?

 

During watching

Answer the following questions.

3. Name a few subjects/projects the students do (at least 3).
4. Why do the parents choose to homeschool according to the clip?
5. What benefits of homeschooling does the mother/teacher mention?

 

After watching

In groups of four, discuss the following questions.

6. How does the mother/teacher know the kids are being taught well enough?
7. What about legislation? Can any parent do homeschooling in the USA?
8. What do you think of homeschooling after seeing the clip? Did the clip change your views and opinions? Why?
